Banned & Hidden

ONLYFANS PAID OWNER $709 MILLION IN MONTHS BEFORE HE DIED

What’s Happening

New company filings in the United Kingdom show OnlyFans paid its owner, Leonid Radvinsky, $709 million in dividends before he died in March. Dividends are payouts of company profit to business owners. He received $535 million in the business year that ended in November 2025 and another $174 million in the first three months of 2026, according to Forbes.

Radvinsky died at 43 after a battle with terminal cancer and had taken about $2.5 billion in dividends since 2021. OnlyFans reported $1.55 billion in revenue for 2025, up 10% from the previous year. Weeks after his death, the company agreed to sell a 16% stake valued at around $3.1 billion, and his widow now controls the business through a family trust.

Why It Matters

OnlyFans stayed private, so the size of its owner's payments only became public through a government filing.

  • The 2025 payout was bigger than the $497 million he got the year before.

  • Forbes estimated Radvinsky's net worth at $4.7 billion when he died.

  • Forbes reported that the sale of the stake to the San Francisco firm Architect Capital sped up after investors learned of his terminal illness.

One owner took $2.5 billion in dividends from OnlyFans, and now his widow controls the company that paid it.

What this Means

Dividends show why owning part of a profitable business can pay much more than a salary. Anyone who owns shares of public companies can get a share of the profit too, but on a much smaller scale.

AMAZON WILL SEND MILLIONS OF PRIME MEMBERS AUTOMATIC REFUNDS STARTING ON OCTOBER 1

What’s Happening

On September 17, the Federal Trade Commission announced that a federal court approved a plan to speed up and expand refunds from Amazon's $2.5 billion settlement. This settlement resolved FTC claims that Amazon signed up millions for Prime without their consent and made it hard to cancel, though Amazon did not admit wrongdoing. It included a $1 billion fine and up to $1.5 billion in refunds to customers.

Under the old rules, only people who used fewer than 10 Prime benefits in a year could get a refund of up to $51. Starting October 1, millions more people who used between 11 and 20 benefits will receive refunds automatically. The cap on total refunds has also increased from $51 to $200.

Why It Matters

Amazon now has to send the money without waiting for anyone to make a claim.

  • Amazon has paid over $845 million to consumers, according to the FTC.

  • People who have already accepted a payment can get an extra $149, for a total of $200, but only if payments fall short of a set level by February 2027.

  • Payments can be made by Venmo, PayPal, or mailed check. The FTC warns that anyone claiming to be from the FTC regarding payments is likely a scammer.

Amazon signed up millions for Prime without asking, the FTC says, and the refunds now come automatically.

What this Means

Subscriptions that renew automatically can add up quickly, and regulators can require companies to refund the money. Checking cancellation terms before you sign up is one of the easiest ways to protect your money.

ELIZABETH HOLMES GETS A HALFWAY HOUSE DATE AFTER HER $4.5 BILLION PAPER FORTUNE VANISHED

What’s Happening

Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes is set to move to a halfway house in Austin, Texas, on August 23, 2027, according to ABC News. ABC cited an update from the Justice Department's Victim Notification System, while the Bureau of Prisons declined to discuss her release plans. Her prison sentence is currently 10 years and 3 months, with a release date of February 22, 2030.

At its peak, investors valued Theranos at $9 billion, and Forbes valued Holmes's 50% stake at $4.5 billion, making her one of the richest self-made women in America. However, Forbes reduced her net worth estimate to zero in June 2016. A judge then ordered Holmes and former Theranos executive Ramesh Balwani to repay about $452 million to victims, making them jointly responsible for the full amount.

Why It Matters

Holmes's $4.5 billion was never cash, it was just an estimate of what her Theranos shares would be worth.

  • Theranos raised nearly $1 billion from investors, including Larry Ellison and Rupert Murdoch, who lost their money.

  • The restitution order includes $125 million to Murdoch, $40 million to Walgreens, and $14.5 million to Safeway.

  • Her sentence was reduced due to a retroactive change in federal sentencing guidelines and earned time under the First Step Act, according to ABC.

The woman Forbes once ranked as America's richest self-made woman now shares a $452 million bill.

What this Means

Paper wealth is an estimate of what an ownership stake might be worth, but it can drop to zero if the company's value collapses. Only assets that can be sold for cash matter when you need money.

US MONEY POWER

U.S. PERMANENT SECURES MILITARY CONTROL OF GREENLAND

What’s Happening

On September 18, President Trump announced a new security agreement with Denmark regarding Greenland. He wrote on Truth Social that it gives the United States "permanent control over security, and all other needs" on the island. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen described the deal as recognizing Denmark's full sovereignty and Greenland's right to self-determination, according to NBC News.

This is not the first time Washington has tried to acquire Greenland. In 1946, President Harry Truman offered Denmark $100 million in gold for the island, but Denmark declined, according to CNN. American interest in the territory goes back even further, to a purchase attempt in 1867, the same year the U.S. bought Alaska from Russia. Trump has suggested buying Greenland outright since his first term and at one point ruled out using military force to take it.

Why It Matters

Two governments signed the same deal but described different outcomes.

  • Trump calls it permanent control. Denmark and Greenland call it a defense agreement that maintains their sovereignty.

  • Truman's 1946 offer was kept secret for decades and only became public much later.

  • The U.S. has tried to acquire Greenland at least four times over more than 150 years but has never owned it.

Nobody ever sold Greenland to America, and America may not need it.

What this Means

Control of an asset does not always require full ownership. The same idea applies to smaller financial decisions, where a lease, license, or long-term contract can provide benefits without the cost of ownership.
